How to report a figure that looks wrong, ask for a place we do not have, request a calculation that does not exist yet, and what makes a report quick to act on.

What makes a report useful

What we can and cannot do

We can check a figure against the published reference material, fix an error in a formula or a data table, add a city or a location you need, add a calculation that does not exist yet, and correct a page whose wording misleads. If a figure is right and your expectation came from a different source, we will usually say so and point out which convention differs β€” the same term can mean different things in different almanacs.

We cannot make a personal observation, issue an official tide table or eclipse notice, confirm what is visible from your particular window on your particular night, or guarantee that any particular published time is what you will see. Cloud, terrain, buildings and your own eyes all come after the arithmetic.

How quickly you will hear back

Reports are usually answered within a few days, though a full re-check of a data table can take longer. We answer in the language you wrote in when we can. If a report turns out to be a duplicate of one we already have, we will still reply, but we may not take it further.

Please do not send

Do not send passwords, API keys, access codes or anything else secret, and there is no need to send personal information about anyone else. There is no account here and nothing needs authenticating, so a credential in a message is a liability rather than a help.

FAQ

How do I report a wrong sunrise time?

Use the feedback form on that city page and include the city, the date and the time zone you selected. The date matters most: the same place and time zone can give a different answer depending on whether daylight saving was in force.

Can I add my own town?

Yes, and we would rather you asked than assumed. Send the town name and, if you know it, its latitude and longitude. Town pages are built on the same astronomy as the calculators, so the only thing needed is the location.

Do you answer questions about my own observations?

We cannot observe for you or interpret what you saw from a window, but if your observation contradicts a figure on this site, that is worth sending. The description of what you saw, the date and the time are usually enough to investigate.

Why does your number differ from another site?

Most often because the two use different conventions: standard time versus daylight-saving time, a different elevation for the horizon, or a different definition of the golden hour boundary. Send both numbers and the settings you used and we will work out which convention is behind the difference.

Do you need my email address?

Only if you want a reply. The form accepts a message without an address, but then we cannot tell you what happened to it.

Can you provide a data feed or an API?

No. The calculations run in your browser rather than on a server, so there is no endpoint to call.
